26 January......Independence day
Shocked...this was my reaction when i heard that people of my own country didn't even know that whether 26January is republic day or independence day....and it was even more shocking when i came to know who those people were who gave this naswer.. "26 january is independence day" TEACHERS of a school at Bhopal....

This news was flashed on NDTV India on 26 jan 2006 when they went to a school at Bhopal just to see what all preperations are going on for Republic Day and asked few questions about this day from the teachers of that school...

Maximum of them said that its independence day...some said that on this day constitution was made(i felt a bit relieved on hearing this but....)they continued and said in 1857 our constitution was made.

Some said that its just a day to remember the freedom fighters of India who fought for our independence. In todays world we are not having time to remember them so our government has declared this very day to remember them.

The thought that who all people were giving these answers trembled me...The future of our country is in their hands and they dont even know about the history(independence day) of our country.

Is this the fault of those teachers or the fault of our weak education system? If this is the scenario in a city(that too a state capital)then what else can you expect from a village side school. These wrong teachings must have been given to them by their teachers and as they all have studied from various schools imagine the condition of other schools too and how many other people must be celebrating 26 jan as.....Independence Day

How can you even imagine the progress of a country where the future is in the hands of people who cannot even termed as uneducated but should be termed as ill-educated...

Kudos! Indeed a resposible,thought provoking,sarcastic,awareness creating perspective!

We ought to know the reason behind such plight!Fortunately, mostly indians are aware of our national festivals.Just based on one appaling incident one should not draw a conclusion on general basis.Lets be positive!Indian education system is not that bad.IITs,IIMs are the feathers in our cap!Lets do something so that it shud reach at broader level!

Good job!Jaya...lets hope India too will become Pink and Plump soon like ur Wonderland!
